At the heart of EMISSION is a longstanding exploration by its director, Takahiro Matsuo, into the relationship between light and emotion through years of artistic practice.

Although light is a visible phenomenon, it has the power to move our emotions, transform the atmosphere of a space, and create experiences we have never encountered before.

EMISSION was born from a desire to explore the possibilities of light more freely and more deeply, and to bring them into tangible forms of expression.

Origin of the Brand Name

"EMISSION" signifies the act of emitting light and that light spreading outward.

A single light takes shape, expands into a space, and touches the human sensibility.

The beauty and experiences born from this spread across countries and cultures, creating new values and connections.

We have imbued the name "EMISSION" with our aspirations for such potential of light.

“EMISSION” means to emit light, and for that light to spread outward.

    In-house developed optical polycarbonate

    EMISSION has conducted extensive research and development into materials themselves in order to bring out the beauty of light reflection and refraction.

    Prism Ray® possesses unique optical properties and superior workability, enabling delicate forms and original textures that are difficult to achieve with glass or acrylic.

    By designing the shape and composition of each piece, we draw out new expressions of light.

    At EMISSION, we have repeatedly researched and developed materials themselves to better bring out the reflection and refraction of light.

    Manufacturing method for patented technology

    Using materials such as Prism Ray®, glass, and metal, our specialists leverage their unique techniques and know-how to create precise forms while carefully assessing the properties of each material. We meticulously finish each piece one by one, verifying the reflection and refraction of light as we work.

    We cater to a wide range of expressions and requests, from art production to custom-made projects.

    Starting with Prism Ray®, our specialists use their unique technology and expertise to precisely craft items while assessing the properties of various materials, such as glass and metal.
    Each piece is carefully finished while checking the reflection and refraction of light.
    We respond to a variety of expressions and requests, from the production of art pieces to custom-made orders.

EMISSION is an art studio based in Ginza, Tokyo, dedicated to giving form to the intangible phenomenon of light.

Founded in 2020 by light artist Takahiro Matsuo, EMISSION operates with a small team of specialists. From collaborations with luxury brands in Japan and abroad to spatial installations and art products, the studio develops a wide range of projects.

All of its artworks incorporate Prism Ray®, a proprietary optical polycarbonate material developed by EMISSION. Harnessing its unique ability to transform light into delicate brilliance and color, each work is meticulously crafted by hand, one piece at a time.
